Trick Dog Art Gallery was created, designed and constructed by Greg and Linda Jaris in 1998.
Trick Dog is a place where the building
is as unique as the art inside. The gallery is nestled upon the Lake
Michigan dunes overlooking Betsie Bay. The expansive front porch
overlooks the bay and provides a divine place to relax with a cup of
coffee after touring the gallery. Within the art gallery you will find
three Michigan Ironwood
trees that actually serve as supports for the building. There are
various mosaics around the doorways, in the entrance and on the cement
retaining walls that were also created by the Jaris'. Even the cement
on the patio is stamped with different patterns. The stone pillars that
support the porch appear to be made of beach stones at first glance,
but a closer look reveals dogs, fish, birds, turtles, and even a
carferry amongst the stones
and mortar. Fences, that serve their purpose around the property, are
adorned with driftwood animals, carved wood figures, and humorous takes
on human nature. Throughout the gallery and around the building there
are numerous sculptures that reflect Jaris' humor and style by
capturing experiences of the region, such as a father helping his
daughter learn how to swim and a woman walking her dog.
Jaris'
artwork is the focal point in the gallery. His art portrays indelible
memories and fond family traditions that are an integral part
of their northern Michigan experiences. There are watercolored
linoleum block prints and paintings that depict regional themes. Jaris
also creates distinctive furniture that is functional, yet sculptural,
at the same time. The gallery also exhibits various gift items, such as
a fine selection of children's toys, functional tea and coffee
products, dog accessories, unusual housewares, handmade jewelry, and
exclusive Trick Dog merchandise. The thoughtfully designed Trick Dog
merchandise includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, camp shirts, aprons
and belts. Take a moment to peruse our online store where you will see
several popular products featured.

Although
Trick Dog is primarily a gallery, there is also a cafe and espresso
bar. It serves the purpose of complementing the artwork within the
gallery with it's own unique creations that could also be considered
works of art. Some of the most popular items are lemon yogurt muffins, cinnamon pull-aparts and
apricot scones.
Visiting Trick Dog is an experience that stimulates your senses, inspires your inner-artist and just makes you feel good!
We will open for our 11th season on Saturday May 23, 2009!
